Video: iPod integration in a Jaguar XF
Jaguar has high hopes for making the replacement of the S-type a huge success. In branding and marketing the new XF Jaguar has largely emphasized the high-tech features of their latest model to attract new customers. There are many cool tech gadgets like the pop-up "drive selector" or the special opening system for the glove compartment and I was therefore very curious to see what they had thought of in terms of iPod integration.
Although I didn't get a chance to actually fully test the system I did get a chance to have a look at the set-up and I must say it looks quite nice (especially compared to the complete lack of factory-fitted iPod integration in the old S-type). The central console between passengers hides an iPod connection (a special proprietary Jaguar cable, not a standard iPod USB cable) which is nicely tucked away under a beautiful wood finishing. There's also an AUX connector for people who'd want to connect a different portable device. The iPod can then be controlled via the large central touch screen display.
In then modern trend of manufacturers offering high-end audio systems, the Jaguar XF can be ordered with an impressive sounding 440W Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system. This high-end system combined with the cool touch-screen iPod control is a nice looking solution for those of us who want great music on the go.
