Video: Dension Gateway 500 iPod interface in an Audi Q7
What if you bought an Audi but didn't order the Audi factory-fitted iPod interface? No problem. Just ask your local Audi dealer to install an aftermarket iPod interface kit. That's what the owner of this Audi Q7 did and the dealer installed a Dension Gateway 500 iPod interface.
The Dension Gateway 500 connects to the Audi factory-fitted radio to control the iPod (in this case an 80GB iPod video) and listen to music through the car audio system. The way it works is that the Gateway "sees" the iPod as a CD in a CD changer. Going to CD number 12 in this case gives direct access to the iPod menu allowing to select playlists, artists, albums, etc.
The interface can be controlled either with the central MMI controls or with the steering wheel controls (clickable wheel) providing a comfortable way to listen to iPod music in the car.
Dension Gateway iPod interface kits are vehicle-specific and are available for many different car models. If you want to add iPod connectivity with good sound quality to your factory-fitted audio system and if good iPod navigation is important to you, the Dension Gateway 500 is a good solution. Professional installation is recommended though.
